FAQs

HOLISTIC DENTISTRY

  • We offer many of the same services that a traditional dentist offers, but with a conservative approach that takes your whole body health into consideration. We minimize or eliminate toxic dental materials while educating our patients about the safest dental treatments available and how they can support their oral health with nutrition and more.

  • We follow the Principle of ALARA (AS Low as Reasonably Achievable) with regards to radiation. Our office uses digital x-rays, which offer the fastest exposure and the least amount of radiation possible.

Digital x-rays expose you to 80-90% less radiation than conventional x-rays.

  • Biological dental hygienists are more than just tooth scrapers. We look at your body as a whole through the oral-systemic link.

A phase-contrast microscope is used to evaluate the oral bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria and their bi-products play a significant role in damage of the soft and hard tissues in our mouth as well as the rest of our body. Through this bacterial evaluation we can modify your cleaning and create a specialized home care protocol to combat the specific types of bacteria found.

Biological dental hygiene uses a holistic approach, including non-toxic materials. We use products that are fluoride-free, artificial dye-free and all-natural.

One of the most effective holistic products we use is ozone gas. Ozone gas is three oxygen atoms that effectively kill bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi on contact. We use ozonated water in all our hygiene equipment and irrigate the gum pockets to efficiently kill those pathogenic bacteria.

Please note: We do NOT clean teeth if you have any silver/mercury amalgam fillings.

To learn more about the process, watch the video below!

  • We are Accredited Biological Dentists via the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, a network of dentists, health professionals, and scientists who research the biocompatibility of dental products, including the risks of mercury, fluoride, root canals, and jawbone cavitations.

We are also SMART Certified - or “Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique” - via the IAOMT, which has has developed extensive safety recommendations for the removal of existing dental mercury amalgam fillings, including detailed protective measures based on scientific research.

  • No.

New X-rays are needed to see decay, impacted teeth, bone loss, abscesses, eruption patterns and pathology of the jaw.

The state of Florida regulations requires that dentists perform an exam before a cleaning. A cleaning is a prescription based procedure that requires an exam occurs at least every 13 months. Professional standards of dentistry include x-rays as part of the exam. In order to do a complete thorough exam and accurately diagnose conditions, x-rays may be required by Dr. Mallery. Dr. Mallery will determine x-ray frequency on her patients based on ADA guidelines. This is specific to each patient and is based on age, decay risk, periodontal health, medical and dental history.

Our office is waiting for the FDA to approve dental diagnostic devices that do not emit ionizing radiation. Until then, x-rays are required for our patients.
